SUMMARY:ELO Encounter
DESCRIPTION:An all live show featuring soaring strings\, striking vocal harmonies and playing all the much loved songs from elo’s hit-filled library including evil woman\, telephone line and don’t bring me down. the elo encounter tribute band promises a night filled with rock\, roll and blue skies that would make even mozart mambo and bach boogie!\nSo hold on tight because rock and roll is king in a show that is guaranteed to have you partying all over the world.\nAs a recent reviewer remarked\, “not really a tribute\, that cheapens what this band do\, which is to transport you back to those days. so sensitively and authentically done\, at times it felt like it was actually elo being mirrored up there on the stage”. That’s what the elo encounter tribute show is all about.

SUMMARY:The Rollin Stoned
DESCRIPTION:A tribute to The Rolling Stones focusing on the early part of their career from 1964 – 1969 including ‘Jumping Jack Flash’\, ‘Paint It Black’\, ‘Not Fade Away’ and ‘Satisfaction’.\n\nThey have been described by The Times as ‘better than the real thing’ and it’s not just enthusiastic fans who rate The Rollin Stoned so highly\, it’s the people in the know and those from the Stones’ inner circle; even booking the band for a band member’s birthday party..\n\nWe hope you’ve got the name and if you’re puzzled by our game\, why not take a look at some of the things that have been said about us\, “…. the nearest thing to the real article” was the view of one reviewer who claims to have seen them all in ‘The Times’\, “…. about as true to the originals as you can get” raved another and “Just like the real thing” enthused rock star photographer Gered Mankowitz at his recent private view. Indeed Keith Richards’ own mother\, Doris\, was kind enough to describe us as “outstanding” and fit to “stand in for the Stones” which is about as good an endorsement as any could wish. Well we could go on\, but you get the picture\, it’s not just enthusiastic fans who rate the Rollin’ Stoned so highly\, it is the people in the know and those from the Stones’ inner circle.\n\nWith a Rolling’Stoned show\, the costumes are shamelessly camp gaudy and fab\, the instruments genuinely vintage and the wit irreverent. However while the tongue is never far from the cheek we make sure it is never to the detriment of the music. This band is not to be confused with the grotesque parody on parody ‘Stella Street’-Lite Stones bands that abound\, nor a bunch of seasoned old pros\, opportunistically hitched on to the “Tribute Bandwagon” for an easy ride. What clearly comes across to audiences seeing the band at work is the passion we all have for the music of what is\, cliche or not\, “The Greatest Rock’n’Roll Band” the world has seen.\n\nA typical two hour show includes not only all the classic crowd pleasing hits\, but is spiced with enough eclectic selections from the deeper recesses of Stones Album archives to satisfy the most demanding of “Buffs”\, all performed with the same vibrantly authentic attack and raw energy that characterised the original Stones shows in their prime.\n\nFor those who witnessed the Stones – Brian Jones et al – in their hey Day\, this is a chance to revisit lost youth\, for the rest of you\, now’s your chance to see what all the fuss was about.

SUMMARY:Darts
DESCRIPTION:Darts\, who had a string of chart hits in the late 70s and early 80s including “Daddy Cool/The Girl Can’t Help It”\, “Come Back My Love”\, “Boy From New York City”\, “It’s Raining” and “Duke of Earl” are a nine-strong\, energetic doo-wop group whose brand of visual excitement and tight harmonies earn them rave reviews wherever they play. \nTheir unique style\, which combines first-rate musicianship and intricate vocal acrobatics\, creates a larger-than-life stage show where the humour they inject into their live performance plays a large part in their appeal. Whilst they appear not to take themselves too seriously\, it is obvious to everyone who sees them that they are all extremely capable and talented musicians. \nThis is definitely the real deal\, as all nine current band members featured in Darts’ line-up during their ‘golden’ years… Big Den Hegarty (Vocals)\, Griff Fender (Vocals)\, Rita Ray (Vocals)\, Pikey Butler (Vocals)\, Horatio Hornblower (Saxophone)\, Duncan Kerr (Guitar)\, Nosmo King (Drums)\, Thump Thomson (Bass guitar) and Jimmy ‘The Nit’ Compton (Keyboards). \nThis will be a night definitely not to be missed.

SUMMARY:Cottingham Folk Festival: Gruff Rhys
DESCRIPTION:Gruff Rhys is a songwriter\, producer and BAFTA-winning storyteller from Wales who has consistently sought a variety of outlets for the spectrum of muses behind his creative flights. Formerly known as the frontman of Super Furry Animals – a band that has been able to achieve that rarest of mixes\, artistic adventure with popular devotion – he blended fuzz-filed rock\, pure harmonies and cutting edge electronics\, while with his other guise\, Neon Neon\, Rhys has documented the lives of maverick car maker John DeLorean and Italian activist and publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli in widescreen\nstyle. \nWith their blissful melodies\, his solo records have explored untapped areas lyrically too. His first\, 2005’s Yr Atal Genhedlaeth\, revelled in Welsh puns; 2014’s American Interior celebrated the unlikely yet influential 18th century explorer John Evans; Babelsberg offered a baroque take on the modern world in 2018; while a year later Pang! created a multi-lingual mash-up\, driven by folkish bleeps crafted in collaboration with South African artist-producer Muzi. \nHowever\, while all those records certainly explored fresh territory\, the Top Ten charting Seeking New Gods climbed lyrically and musically on to totally new terrain\, because for his seventh solo record Gruff Rhys created a conceptual record about his own mountain that became his most critically and commercially successful solo album yet.

SUMMARY:Cottingham Folk Festival: Ward Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Trust Ward Thomas to look for light in troubled times. Music In The Madness\, the twins’ remarkable fifth album\, is both a harmony-soaked balm for shattered souls and an uplifting reminder of what really matters. \nLove\, family\, unity and the healing power of music are recurrent themes on an album begun as war broke out in Ukraine and the world went into a post-Covid tailspin. While most of us struggled to sit through the news\, Catherine and Lizzy did as they have for a decade – wrote songs to make sense of what they were seeing. \nA trip to Nashville last February – the Hampshire sisters’ second home since they recorded their debut in the city while still at school – nailed the spirit of the album. The first song written was the joyous title track\, an Abba-meets-Americana ode to hope. \nAlso begun on that Nashville trip was the mighty Justice and Mercy\, the album’s first release. Unusually for Ward Thomas\, the creepy country corker is a fictional tale\, inspired by the pair’s shared love of true crime podcasts.

SUMMARY:Cottingham Folk Festival: Rumer
DESCRIPTION:Since her first album Seasons Of My Soul landed in the Top 3 of the UK Albums Charts in 2010\, achieved Platinum sales status and garnered her a MOJO Award for Best Breakthrough Act as well as two BRIT Award nominations\, British singer-songwriter Rumer has gone on to forge an acclaimed career both as a highly regarded songwriter\, penning global hits such as “Slow” and “Aretha\,” and also a peerless interpreter of the work of others\, as evidenced on her follow-up album Boys Don’t Cry – an album of classic covers from the 1970s – plus Rumer Sings Bacharach at Christmas and This Girl’s in Love: A Bacharach and David Songbook. \nRumer spent the past several years living in the American South\, in northwest Arkansas\, then central Georgia\, where she embraced its community and culture and motherhood. Although she enjoyed her time out of the spotlight\, her deep-seated desire for music discovery\, which has been a constant throughout her career\, eventually led her to Nashville in search of hidden gems to record. Once she heard the catalogue of Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Hugh Prestwood\, a songwriter whose name is spoken with reverence by his colleagues and whose work has been recorded by transcendent singers like Alison Krauss\, Trisha Yearwood\, and Judy Collins\, she was hooked. Her latest album\, Nashville Tears collects fifteen of Prestwood’s finest songs\, many never recorded until now\, revealing truths of the heart\, both intimate and universal\, realistic and romantic. \n\nIntimate acoustic performance in an all seated setting\, limited to 250 tickets.
